NETFLIX has cast newcomer Emma Corrin as Princess Diana in its upcoming season of royal drama “The Crown.”
So green is the actress, not even her age has been confirmed by publicists.
In a press release, Netflix confirmed that filming for the fourth season of the drama will begin later this year, reported BBC.
In an accompanying quote, Corrin said she was “beyond excited” to be joining the series, which presents a dramatized history of the British monarchy. “Princess Diana was an icon, and her effect on the world remains profound and inspiring,” she said.
The actress is set to make her film debut in “Misbehavior,” a historical drama following a group of women from the Women’s Liberation Movement as they attempt to disrupt the 1970 Miss World beauty competition in London, reported BBC.
Corrin will begin her role as Princess Diana by dramatizing her failed marriage to Prince Charles during the years of Margaret Thatcher’s government.
She is the latest actress to join the revolving cast of “The Crown,” which sees new actors playing the royals as the series jumps forward in time every two seasons.
The first two seasons of “The Crown” starred Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II and Matt Smith as Prince Philip. In the show’s upcoming third season, those roles will be portrayed by Olivia Colman and Tobias Menzies. Other new cast members include Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret and Ben Daniels as Antony Armstrong Jones.
Netflix’s content chief Ted Sarandos has previously said the plan is for the show to run for six seasons, spanning the Queen’s entire life.
